  • Total contributions from general-purpose political committees, including monetary and in-kind contributions, may not exceed $300,000.
  • Corporations, in general, cannot contribute to campaigns. However, an exception is made for professional corporations, which may contribute as long as the limit for contributions from a single professional corporation is observed.

PURSUING GOALS

After graduating from high school in Dallas in 1968, Brad came to Houston and entered Rice University, graduating in 1972 with a political science degree. As a student, he used his bilingual ability to form a volunteer tutoring program for Latino children at Crockett Elementary School. He also was active in ROTC, completing infantry officer training as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves.

To support himself through college, Brad worked as a radio station announcer, bank teller and ticket office staff person at the Astrodome, but the pursuit of a law degree was his ultimate goal. Three years later, he graduated from South Texas College of Law, and went into private practice with fellow Rice graduate and East Bernard native Paul Hlavinka.

The two were partners for 17 years, maintaining a general civil practice in southwest Houston serving clients in Harris, Fort Bend, Wharton and surrounding counties.
